SAHIC: What does Rio de Janeiro - an icon of world tourism - offer to those looking to invest in Brazil?
Gustavo Tutuca: Rio de Janeiro is undoubtedly one of the most iconic destinations in world tourism and a gateway for investors seeking opportunities in Brazil. As Secretary of State for Tourism, I can say that Rio combines tourist attractiveness, consolidated infrastructure and an environment conducive to new business, making it a strategic destination for those looking to invest in the sector. The state has one of the most dynamic tourism markets in the country, with a constant flow of national and international visitors. This guarantees a solid demand for investments in hotels, gastronomy, entertainment, mobility and tourism infrastructure. The state already has a robust air network, connecting Rio to the main cities in the world, in addition to a diversified and excellent hotel sector.
SAHIC: What are the government's main actions to continue encouraging tourism and hotel development in 2025 and in the coming years?
Gustavo Tutuca: The government of the State of Rio de Janeiro, through Setur-RJ and TurisRio, has a solid commitment to strengthening tourism and the hotel industry. For 2025 and the coming years, we are focused on strategic areas such as promoting destinations in Rio de Janeiro, attracting investment, and improving infrastructure and tourism services. In terms of promotion, we have stepped up the state’s participation in national and international trade fairs, strengthening partnerships with tour operators and airlines to expand air connectivity and consolidate Rio de Janeiro as a global destination. In addition, marketing campaigns and strategic actions in the main source markets are being expanded to attract even more tourists. Our goal is clear: to make Rio de Janeiro the best tourist destination in Brazil and one of the most competitive in the world, ensuring economic growth, job creation, and opportunities for the entire population of Rio de Janeiro.
SAHIC: What are the government's main objectives for this year and what strategies does it have to further attract investors' attention to the destination?
Gustavo Tutuca: Among the strategies to attract even more investors, we are stepping up our participation in global tourism and hotel fairs, promoting roadshows in strategic markets. The goal is to facilitate access for tourists and, at the same time, demonstrate to investors the enormous potential for returns in the sector. Cities such as Búzios, Angra dos Reis, Paraty, Vassouras and Resende are great attractions for investors interested in resorts, experiential tourism and sustainable projects. Tourism in Rio de Janeiro is growing, and we want to ensure that this growth is accompanied by solid investments, job creation and sustainable development. Our commitment is to consolidate the state as one of the main tourism hubs in the world, ensuring a favorable environment for business and an increasingly qualified experience for visitors.
